Worship Community Stories: 2008
The following are e-mails sent to Liz Calvin, Executive Director of WDP-USA
Hi Liz,
I was able to attend 4 WDP services- all beautiful. We also had an evening children's service and the youth made "kite notes" and would like to send them to Guyana to let the people know they were praying. Do you have an address where they could be sent? Or would you like them sent to the NY office- I imagine there may be others across the country.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Peace,
Marilyn Lariviere
Dear Liz Calvin:
My church hosted World Day of Prayer last night and I attended this event for the first time. It was wonderful! We had a sizable crowd (maybe 150) from many denominations. The service was very meaningful and I appreciate all the coordination efforts of the USA Committee.
I especially liked the large worship bulletin format. In fact, I wish our church used such a format EVERY Sunday for our worship service. Please relay my thanks to the design and printing team.

Hi Liz & Marilyn and all our WDP sisters around the world:
We in St. Kitts had a truly inspiring service. It was one of the largest in terms of attendance. I speak of the South Zone which is in our main town. There were three other services held throughout the island and I am awaiting reports from our zone chairpersons.
Schools and colleges on the island also observed the day. Guyanese residents played a prominent role in our service. We also were able to sample some Guyanese goodies at the end! There were also some exibits of Guyana on display. For the first time in many years we were able to have photos taken, so we look forward to see some in the journal for 2008. We were all encouraged to pray by our speaker and there was a period of individual praying....we prayed our hearts out for the women of Guyana and the world over. We felt the blessings coming down. God bless you all and keep on praying!

Greetings Sisters in Christ
Thank you for your words of upliftment as we celebrated World Day of Prayer 2008.
It was indeed a time of great reflection as we prepared for WDP 2008. Our Worship Service was a wonderful ecumenical experience and very well attended.
We thank God for the opportunity with over 170 countries and regions uniting in prayer for Guyana under the Theme “ God’s Wisdom Provides New Understanding”.
May God bless us all as we continue in his service guided by the Holy Spirit
With love,
Waveney Benjamin

A Lifetime Prayer
By Zabelle S. Beard - In Honor of World Day of Prayer-2005
God of Our Fathers, great spirit, supreme deity of all nations, creator of all peoples and everlasting giver of life.
The shadows of night have passed and a new tomorrow is dawning. Hear our petition rising to the heavens. For all the know and unknown wrong deeds of our lives we repent and humbly kneel, facing the East, to beg forgiveness. Please erase our sins from the book of life; renew us again while we strive to overcome evil with good.
As the sun rises, please hear our small voices in gratitude for many gifts and blessings given us. As we journey on we ask: instill us with honor, courage, acceptance of and compassion for each other and those in need, and guide our hearts and feet in paths of justice, hurting no one.
We praise our eternal God for helping us stand tall, and for teaching us that when we share we also receive, and when we love and forgive, we are also forgiven. Help us not to drop the olive branch of peace but carry it within our hearts and, with a smile, extend it to all mankind.
Almighty creator of all who dwell on earth and in the heavens above: hold our hands over bumpy roads lest we stumble: nurture our desire to live in peace and harmony with all peoples of your creation; and in your own good time over many pathways, grant that we may be deserving to enter rest eternal thru your grace and mercy.
Prayerfully,
Amen (So Be It)

Weathering The Storm
By Itiyopiya Ewart - In Honor of World Day of Prayer-2007
As the storm beats down on the weary and disparaged,
We pray and open our hearts.
Our minds and our faith in God,
We trust that we can make things better.
The weary and disparaged are worthy of our help,
as God is worthy of our love.
And though the storm is heavy,
With God's love as our protection and relief
The storm will be overshadowed by the brighter days ahead.
Amen.
